THOU PREPAREST A TABLE

Psalms 23

In Psalm 23:5, King David says to the Lord, “You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies”. David’s relationship with God was so close until the spirit of his close walk with God, open up his heart to hear God, and know that he is an honored dinner guest of a God who is generous, also capable of caring for David’s every need. David saw God as a gracious host, who did shower him with personal care, abundant goodness, protection from his enemies, and eternal blessings.

David said, v1 “The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want” v2 “He maketh me to lie down in green pastures: he leadeth me beside the still waters”.

David was saying the Lord is my shepherd, He is my help, In the time of trouble I call on God. “O my God, I trust in thee: let me not be ashamed, let not mine enemies’ triumph over me” Psalms 25:2. David said, when my enemies are upon me The Table is Prepared. and ” yea though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil; for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me”. For O Lord there is protection at your Table, therefore I will fear no evil. David allure to the rod and staff in Psalm 23, the rod is a symbol of the Lord’s presence with him, and God strength with him. The rod of God represented protection to David. As I keep looking at the shepherd Psalms, “thy rod and thy staff they comfort me,” we know the shepherds in Jesus’ days carried a staff, a long, slender stick; often hooked at the tip, was used to direct the sheep. Jesus is our shepherd, just as he was David’s, who seen the Lord as his guidance, and the one who showed lovingkindness to him. “The table is prepared!!!”

I say to all of God people, the table is prepared. Come and see, the table is prepared for all of God’s people. Yes, God has prepared a table for me right before my face in the presence of my enemies is the table spread out for me, I see Salvation on the table, Forgiveness on the table, Joy and Peace is on the table, but most of all eternal life is given and it is spread all around on the table. Yes, eternal life is the gift of God that comes only “through Jesus our Lord”. Romans 6:23. It is given by death on the cross for the effect of sin. Come on over here to the table, God has laid a table to feast on before your eyes. There is kindness at the table, guidance is at the table, and there is enough power at the table to keep you standing in all your battles. So, my friend, come on over to feast at the table of the Lord.

Thou preparest a table before me Lord. Just like I have already stated. Psalm 23 portrays the close relationship David enjoys with his God. It begins with the metaphor of a shepherd leading his lamb, that tell us about the Lord’s personal care, guidance, and protection of His sheep. In the closing verses, the likeness of a mental imagery intensifies as David is welcome into the Lord’s house as a guest forever, a continual resident, and as a friend a God. All of God’s people has been welcome into the house of the Lord, and it is a continual resident, it is for all eternity. “In my Father’s house are many mansions: if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you”. John 14: 2

“You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies; you anoint my head with oil, my cup overflows. Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life, and I shall dwell in the house of the LORD forever”. Psalm 23:5-6 ESV.

Come one, come all, the table is set, the feast of the Lord is prepared, the table is spread with gifts of joy, peace, laughter, and singing unto our God. You are invited to the feast of the Lord continually, perpetual, a never-ending feast the Lord has prepared for His people. Come singing all people who are friends of the Lord!
