ISAIAH 51:6
Lift up your eyes to the heavens and look on the earth beneath. For the heavens will vanish away like smoke, the earth will grow old like a garment, and those who dwell in it will die in like manner; But My salvation will be forever, and My righteousness will not be abolished.
The Bible consistently warns us that this world will not last forever. One day, “Heaven and Earth will pass away, but God’s word will not pass away. Jesus said in Matthew 24:35. “Heaven and earth will pass away, but My words will by no means pass away”. His statement was in the context of end times’ prophecies and the eternal nature of Jesus’ words.
Jesus spoken words is eternal, they will never pass away, they will never stop being relevant. He said, “My words will never pass away.” This means that trusting Jesus is wiser than trusting in the world and worldly things.

Genesis 1:13
And God called the firmament Heaven. So, the evening and the morning were the second day.
The Lord looks down from heaven upon the children of men.
Psalm 119:89
Forever, O Lord, your word is settled in heaven.
Ecclesiastes 5:2
Do not be rash with your mouth and let not your heart utter anything before God. For God is in heaven, and you on earth; Therefore let your words be few.
Isaiah 66:1
Heaven is My throne, And earth is my footstool. Where is the house that you will build Me? And where is the place of my rest?
God tells us where His throne is, it’s in Heaven. He tells us where He rest His foot, it’s on Earth, but then God ask, where is the house that you will build Me? Will you build God’s house in your heart, will you let God dwell in your heart, will you give Him a place of rest?
2 Corinthians 6:16
And what agreement has the temple of God with idols? For you are the temple of the living God. As God has said: “I will dwell in them. And walk among them. I will be their God, And they shall be My people”.
BEHOLD THE HEAVENS:
Jesus refers to the passing away of heaven and earth in Matthew 5:18 as “For truly, I say to you, until heaven and earth pass away, not an iota, not a dot, will pass from the Law until all is accomplished”. And in Revelation 21:1 “Then I saw a new heaven and a new earth, for the first heaven and the first earth had passed away, and the sea was no more”. John writes of a new heaven and a new earth in the eternal state, having seen that “the first heaven and earth had passed away”. Isaiah 65:17 “For behold, I create new heavens and a new earth, and the former things shall not be remembered or come into mind” and 2 Peter 3:13 says “But according to his promise we are waiting for new heavens and a new earth in which righteousness dwells”. To “pass away” is to disappear or be no more. This is referring to the physical heaven and earth which is the material world, and all that the world contains, but this does not pertain to the spirits / souls of the inhabitants of the world. The scripture is clear that people will outlast the current material universe, some people will be in a state of eternal bliss and some in a state of eternal misery. The current universe will be replaced by another that will never know the contamination of sin.
BEHOLD THE HEAVENS:
Knowing that heaven and earth will pass away gives us perspective in life. We know that this world is not our home. “We are looking forward to a new heaven and a new earth, where righteousness dwells”. We read in 2 Peter 3:13 “But according to his promise we are waiting for new heavens and a new earth in which righteousness dwells”. Jesus tells us to have the proper priorities. He said, “Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth but store up for yourselves treasures in heaven” Matthew 6:19-20 ” Do not lay up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy and where thieves break in and steal, but lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroys and where thieves do not break in and steal. And Peter, after reminding us of the temporary nature of this world, says “Dear friends, since you are looking forward to this, make every effort to be found spotless, blameless and at peace with him” 2 Peter 3:14 “Therefore, beloved, since you are waiting for these, be diligent to be found by him without spot or blemish, and at peace”.
