“For we are the circumcision, which worships God in the spirit, and rejoices in Christ Jesus, and have no confidence in the flesh. (Philippians 3:3) It seems the church of the Philippians, though a faithful and flourishing church, was disturbed by the Judaizing teachers, who endeavored to keep up the law of Moses and mix the observances of it with the doctrine of Christ and his institutions. Paul starts the 3rd. chapter of Philippians with warnings for the church of Philadelphia. If you are the circumcision of God of the heart, I too say to you, like the Apostle Paul said to the Philippians people: “Finally, my brethren, rejoice in the Lord. To write the same things to you, to me indeed is not grievous, but for you it is safe. Beware of dogs, beware of evil workers, beware of the concision. For we are the circumcision, who worship God in the spirit, and rejoice in Christ Jesus, and have no confidence in the flesh”. (Philippians 3:1-3). Trust God with the spirit that dwells by the circumcision of your heart and worships Him by faith”. Rest in God for the physical, body, mental and spiritual needs in your life, breath your faith on the spirit of God and have no confidence in the flesh. “But I am like a green olive tree in the house of God: I trust in the mercy of God forever and ever”. (Psalm 52:8). The Christian heart is circumcised by God and it is their character and desire to worship and rejoice in Christ Jesus. The Christian is the circumcision, the spiritual circumcision, the peculiar of people of God, who are in covenant with him, as the Old-Testament Israelites were. “And I will establish my covenant between me and thee and thy seed after thee in their generations for an everlasting covenant, to be a God unto thee, and to thy seed after thee”. (Genesis 17:7). We are The Circumcision of God. Jewels of Nugget “What a beautiful thing Jesus is the Love of our heart”, He is our Circumcision. As the Apostle states, our circumstances in this world are distributions of divine Providence. God set up and pull down, as the Lord has called every one, so let him walk. “Is any man called being circumcised? Let him not become uncircumcised. Is any called in uncircumcised? Let him not be circumcised. It matters not whether a man is a Jew or Gentile in the church of God, Circumcision is nothing, and Uncircumcision is nothing, but keeping the commandments of God. Whatever way you were called into the service of God and have accepted God to be the Lord of your life, it matters not whether, circumcised or uncircumcised, the law see the flesh, (God gave the law as a schoolmaster to root out the sin in man heart, but the finished work of Jesus on the cross completed what the law couldn’t do in the flesh, but now the greatest is God’s love and it see the heart of man. The Apostle Paul describes true Christians are indeed the circumcision, the spiritual circumcision, the peculiar people of God who are in covenant with him just as the Old-Testament Israelites were. “We are the circumcision, who worship God in the spirit, and rejoice in Christ Jesus, and have no confidence in the flesh.
Here are three characters:
1. We worshipped in the spirit, and not in carnal ordinances of the Old-Testament which consist of meats, and drinks, and divers washings.
2. We rejoiced in Christ Jesus and not in the peculiar privileges – just mere outward enjoyments and performances. They rejoice in their relation to Christ and interest in him.
3. We have no confidence in the flesh, in those carnal ordinances and outward performances. We must be taken off from trusting in our own battles and ourselves, then we can build only on Jesus Christ the everlasting foundation. Jesus is our confidence, as well as our joy, as we continue to be the peculiar people set aside to worship God.
Well, another Jewels of Nuggets for the Soul. Praise the Lord!
